SIPA Scholarships
C.E. Savedge Fellowships
One or two fellowships will be awarded in memory of Col. Savedge at each convention. Publications advisers who have never attended the Carolina Journalism Institute are eligible to win. Fellowship must be used to attend the Carolina Journalism Institute in June.
Betty Morton and Sylvia Daughtry Teacher Scholarship
A scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to become a classroom teacher. Recipients must attend the University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications and plan a career in publication advising. The recipient's publication staff must be a member of SIPA or the recipient must be a student member of SIPA. The recipient also must attend the SIPA Convention in Columbia.
C.E. Savedge Memorial Scholarship
Col. CE (Chuck) Savedge was an important figure in scholastic journalism and SIPA. The USC School of Journalism and Mass Communications has established a scholarship for a yearbook staff member who plans to attend the USC School of Journalism and Mass Communications. The scholarship was first awarded at the 1992 convention. The winner must attend the convention.
Elizabeth B. Dickey SIPA Scholarship
A scholarship is awarded by the University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications to an outstanding SIPA student at the convention. Recipients must attend the USC School of Journalism and Mass Communications and plan a career in journalism. The winner must attend the convention. The recipient's publication staff must be a member of SIPA or the recipient must be a student member of SIPA.
J. Grady Locklear Scholarship
The winner of the J. Grady Locklear Scholarship must attend the USC School of Journalism and Mass Communications, be on a literary magazine staff. The recipient's publication staff must be a member of SIPA or the recipient must be a student member of SIPA. The winner must attend the convention.
McClatchy Minority Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to minority students pursuing print journalism careers in the USC School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Scholarships will be awarded based on need and merit as determined by the School. To be eligible for this award, freshmen must be accepted to the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. This is a one-year, non-renewable scholarship.
SIPA Regional Scholarship
The SIPA Endowment Committee awards a $750 scholarship to an outstanding SIPA student who will attend a school of journalism and mass communications at an accredited college or university in the SIPA region. Students who apply must attend the SIPA Convention in Columbia. The recipient's publication staff must be a member of SIPA or the recipient must be a student member of SIPA.
