Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Cristian Camilo García Tengono is a Ph.D. student in Comparative Literature. He holds an M.A. in Spanish and a Women's and Gender Studies Certificate from the University of South Carolina (2026), and earned his bachelor's degree in Creative Writing at Universidad Central in Bogotá (2022).

His current research develops a theory of "Queer Landscapes," bringing Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space into conversation with Sara Ahmed's Queer Phenomenology to read how subjects/objects in space are oriented, inhabited, and made strange/possible in queer global writings. He first developed this framework in his master's thesis, Viral Landscapes: HIV/AIDS Representations in Latin American Literature (Paisajes virales: vih/sida en la literatura cuir latinoamericana contemporánea), and continues to extend it in his doctoral work.

As an author, Cristian has published poems in the queer Colombian poetry anthology Como la flor: voces de la poesía cuir colombiana contemporánea and short stories in the Colombian newspaper El Espectador.
