Research

The Vascular and Integrative Physiology (VIP) Lab, led by Dr. McCarthy, explores how blood vessels change and deteriorate in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Specifically, we study how a process called autophagy, the body’s mechanism of recycling cellular components, in resistance arteries and the liver affects overall vascular health, especially in hypertension. Our goal is to discover new ways to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases. We welcome all trainees who share our passion for improving cardiovascular health.
