Concert Bands

Committed to providing outstanding musical opportunities for students of all levels and abilities, the University of South Carolina Bands offers a variety of ensembles. Membership in these ensembles is open to all USC students, regardless of major or classification.

USC Wind Ensemble

The USC Wind Ensemble, led by Cormac Cannon, is the University of South Carolina’s premier wind band and a champion of today’s composers. Blending adventurous new works with landmark repertoire, the ensemble connects students with living artists and cultivates performances defined by excellence, curiosity and bold musical vision.

USC Symphonic Winds

Led by Jay Jacobs, USC Symphonic Winds brings classic band masterworks, bold contemporary voices and experimental wind and percussion music to life. With rotating seating, flexible instrumentation and close individual mentorship, the ensemble offers students a dynamic, collaborative setting for musical growth and discovery.

University Band

The USC University Band, led by Benjamin Pouncey, welcomes musicians from across campus and all majors, no audition required. With one rehearsal per week and concerts each semester, the ensemble offers students a vibrant space to keep making music, build community and perform on stage.

Palmetto Concert Band

Founded in 1999 by James K. Copenhaver and William J. Moody, the Palmetto Concert Band unites passionate professional and semi-professional musicians from across the Carolinas and Georgia. Many are USC alumni and music educators, volunteering their artistry to share outstanding wind band repertoire with Columbia and beyond.
